“Spiritual Health”

“Why you do not even know what will happen tomorrow, what is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say. If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that. As it is, you boast in your arrogant schemes. All such boasting is evil. If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them.” James 4:14-17

Meditation:

It seems that a large portion of society has embraced the disturbing notion that nothing matters. We can see how sinful things have permeated our society and become commonplace.

Many people have decided to live a life of decadence and pleasure while one has the chance. Younger generations especially have embraced this idea. How can we resist these temptations?

The idea that nothing matters comes from people without a true sense of the afterlife, for God knows what we do here on earth. Sinful behavior may seem more enjoyable, but is it? Even if one ignores the afterlife, is living a secular and hedonistic lifestyle truly more enjoyable? In my own experience, it is not.

Think not of the pleasures of ‘today,’ but see rather living in Gods’ image as an investment. We cannot expect to live healthy spiritual lives if we surrender only to passing pleasures or fleeting temptations.

Listen to the words in the passage at the beginning of this blog, because God’s explanation of sin was created to protect us, sin enslaves us.

Prayer: Lord God, our Good Shepherd and light, guide us through this life in obedience as you deem worthy. Help us not to rejoice in life’s secular pleasures and to focus on a Spiritual Life that will lead us to your side. Let us not fall into the temptations of this earth, in despair at its brevity. This life is fleeting Lord, and we place our faith in your teachings, realizing that what awaits us is far greater than anything we can experience on earth. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen!
