"Blessed are the PEACEMAKERS, for they will be called children of GOD.”
Matthew 5:9
“The second is this; LOVE your neighbor as yourself…”
Mark 12:31
“The LORD GOD took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take CARE of it.”
Genesis 2:15
Meditation.
In a world often marked by division, noise, and environmental neglect, the call to live in peace and harmony—with one another and with nature—is not just a lofty ideal. It is a divine mandate rooted in Scripture. As followers of Christ, we are invited to be peacemakers (Matthew 5:9), to love our neighbors (Mark 12:31), and to Steward God’s creation (Genesis 2:15).
But how do we live this out practically in our daily lives?
Let’s explore how biblical principles can guide us toward a life of peace and harmony, both with people and the planet.
Embrace the Role of Stewardship
Biblical Principle: “The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.” — Genesis 2:15
Application: God entrusted humanity with the care of His creation. This means we are not owners, but stewards. Living in harmony with nature begins with small, intentional choices:
Reduce waste by recycling and composting.
Support local and sustainable agriculture.
Choose reusable over disposable items.
Plant trees or maintain a garden to contribute to biodiversity.
Example: Start a community garden at your church or neighborhood. It not only provides fresh produce but also builds relationships and teaches children about God’s creation.
Pursue Peace in Relationships.
Biblical Principle: “If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.” — Romans 12:18
Application: Peace isn’t passive—it’s active. It requires humility, forgiveness, and intentionality.
Practice active listening in conversations.
Forgive quickly and seek reconciliation.
Avoid gossip and speak words that build up. "Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen." Ephesians 4:29.
Pray for those who hurt you.
Example: If there’s tension with a coworker or family member, take the first step. Invite them for coffee, apologize if needed and seek to understand their perspective. Peace often begins with a simple act of courage.
Reflect God’s Character through Creation Care
Biblical Principle: “The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it.” — Psalm 24:1
Application: When we care for the earth, we reflect the Creator’s heart. Creation reveals God’s glory (Romans 1:20), and our treatment of it is a form of worship.
Organize or participate in local clean-up events.
Reduce your carbon footprint by walking, biking, or carpooling.
Use energy-efficient appliances and conserve water.
Plant flowers or plants that will mutliply each year. This will help the birds, squirrels, and other creatures of nature survive.
Example: Host a “Creation Sunday” at your church where the sermon, songs, and activities focus on God’s creation. Include a nature walk or a tree-planting event afterward.
LOVE Your Neighbor as Yourself
Biblical Principle: “Love your neighbor as yourself...” — Mark 12:31
Application: Loving others means seeking their well-being, especially the marginalized and vulnerable.
Volunteer at shelters or food banks.
Support fair-trade products that ensure ethical labor practices.
Advocate for policies that protect both people and the environment.
Crochet or knit scarves, hats, or blankets, or sew blankets and donate them to those in need and to homeless shelters.
Example: Partner with local organizations that serve refugees or the homeless. Offer your time, resources, or skills to help them rebuild their lives with dignity.
Cultivate a Spirit of Gratitude and Simplicity
Biblical Principle: “But godliness with contentment is great gain.” — 1 Timothy 6:6
Application: A grateful heart leads to a simpler life—one that consumes less and gives more.
Keep a gratitude journal to recognize God’s blessings.
Practice Sabbath rest to reconnect with God and creation.
Declutter your home and donate unused items.
Recycle as many items as possible rather than just throwing them in the trash.
Living in peace and harmony is not a one-time decision—it’s a daily practice rooted in love, humility, and obedience to God. As we align our lives with His Word, we become agents of reconciliation, healing, and hope in a fractured world.
Let’s be the kind of people who walk gently on the earth and tenderly with one another, reflecting the Prince of Peace in all we do.
Prayer:
Gracious GOD, thank you for loving us indeed! Help us to remember every day that we’re saved for GRACE and we’re stewards of the planet earth, and your will is to spread the GOSPEL, living in PEACE, HARMONY and take care of your creation! in JESUS’ Powerful SAVIOR name we pray, Amen!
Jose Reyes.
