"Thanksgiving in all times"
So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as LORD, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built in him, strengthened in the FAITH as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.
Colossians 2:6-7.
I will extol the LORD at all times; his praise will always be on my lips.
Psalm 34:1
Meditation.
Thanksgiving is more than a response to pleasant circumstances. It is a way of seeing God's steady presence when the day feels bright, ordinary, or hard.
Colossians 2:6–7 gives us a steady invitation:
“Just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.”
This is not a passing mood; it is a life anchored in Christ.
Rooted, Built Up, and Established.
A tree stays fruitful because its roots reach deeper than what is visible.
In the same way, believers grow by remaining close to Jesus through Scripture, prayer, and obedience. We are rooted in what he has done, built up as we practice his ways, and established in faith as we trust his character. Thanksgiving grows from this foundation: we remember that every good gift is received from God, and that his presence does not leave us.
Colossians 2:6–7 joins spiritual maturity with gratitude. The more deeply we receive Christ’s grace, the more freely thanksgiving can overflow.
Practicing Gratitude in Ordinary Life
Thanksgiving becomes real when it enters the routines of your day. Try these simple practices:
Prayer — Begin with thanks before requests, naming God’s gifts and care. Philippians 4:6–7 directs us to bring every concern to God “with thanksgiving,” promising that his peace will guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
Worship — Follow Psalm 100:4: “Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise.” Let worship turn your attention from hurry to God’s goodness.
Contentment — Receive today’s portion without comparing it with someone else’s. Contentment is not passivity; it is confidence that God is enough for this moment.
Serving others — Offer practical kindness, encouragement, and time. Gratitude looks outward when we recognize that we have
received grace.
Trusting God — Place tomorrow in his hands, taking the next faithful step instead of demanding a full map.
Thankful Even in Difficulty
Psalm 34:1 says, “I will bless the LORD at all times; his praise shall continually be in my mouth.” This does not deny pain. It chooses to praise God within the pain, believing he is still near and worthy of trust.
When answers seem delayed, thanksgiving can become an act of faith. Name what remains true: God hears, Christ holds you, and grace is present for today.
You may thank God for his character even while honestly asking for help.
Conclusion — A Life That Overflows
Rooted in Christ, we can meet ordinary moments with open hands:
praying instead of spiraling,
worshiping instead of forgetting, serving instead of turning inward, and trusting instead of controlling.
Let thanksgiving shape your choices and relationships. Today, name three gifts and offer them back to God in praise.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank you! for receiving us and making us your own. Root us in you, build us up in faith, and steady our hearts when life is uncertain. Teach us to pray with thanksgiving, worship in every season, live with contentment, serve others gladly, and trust your care. Guard our hearts and minds with your peace and let praise overflow from our lives. In Jesus' Mighty name, Amen!
Jose Reyes.
