“A farmer went out to sow his seed, As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path; it was trampled on, and the birds ate it up, some fell on rocky ground, and when it came up, the plants withered because they had no moisture, others seed fell among thorns, which grew up with it and chocked the plants. Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up and yielded a crop a hundred times more that was sown.
When He said this, he called out, “Whoever has ears, let them hear.”
His disciples asked him what this parable meant. He said “the knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of God has given to you, but to others I speak in parables, so that, “though seeing they may not see; though hearing they may not understand”
This is the meaning of the parable:
The seed is the word of God.
Those along the path are the ones who hear, and then the devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts, so that they may not believe and be saved…
Those on the rocky ground are the ones who receive the word with joy when they heard it, but they have no root. They believe for a while, but in the time of testing they fall away…
The seed that fell among thorns stands for those who hear, but as they go on their way they are choked by life’s worries, riches and pleasures, and they do not mature…
But the seed on good soil stands for those with a noble and good heart, who hear the word, retain it, and by persevering produce a crop”
Luke 8:5-15
“Make the heart of this people calloused; make their ears dull and close their eyes.
Otherwise, they might see with their eyes, hears with their ears, understand with their hearts, and turn and be healed.”
Isaiah 6:10
Meditation:
“The Parable of the Sower” calls us to keeping sowing the “seed”, God’s word, and encourages us to continue spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It is our job is to keep on sowing, keep on sowing... and it is up to the people to receive, accept, ignore, or reject it...
We are facing opposition, we are tested, tempted, and targeted every day. The mind is the “battlefield”, the enemy attacks us with negative thoughts, pain, and challenges... but we need to wear the Whole Armor of God, and focus and Refocus in Jesus Christ’s Great Commission:
“Therefore, Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and of the Holy Spirit. and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you and surely, I am with you always to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28:19-20.
For Bernice and me, this means “Keep on sowing” ... it is our Life’s Purpose, our Mission...! We are to continue Spreading the “Good News” of Salvation, inviting everyone to Accept Jesus Christ like their personal Savior...! it is an honor to serve our heavenly Father, and our Loved Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!!!
Prayer:
Merciful God, thank you for giving us a Savior, Jesus Christ! and a new Eternal Life to serve you, sowing the “seed”. Protect, Help, Guide and Lead us every day to do your will not our will, in Jesus’ name we pray. Amen!
