“Unforgettable” Celebrate Retirement/Birthday Tour Adventures….

When Jose retired this year we decided to make a Celebrate Retirement Tour out of our adventures. We decided to include my birthday in this adventure and he wanted to take me to see the Ocean since I have never seen it. We thought about going to Ocean City, MD but changed our minds and decided to go to the Bible Museum instead and then to the Ocean. The scenery along our trip was awesome!

The trees, the cities, the mountains, the sky, everything was simply awesome!!! There were several ‘unexpected’ adventures as you probably already read about but despite it all the adventure was totally worth it!

For me the best part of our adventure was visiting the Bible Museum in DC! This place had 6 floors with awesome sites on every floor. First we visited the Vatican Library Gallery and I was totally amazed! There was so much to see and take in!

Then we visited the Impact of the bible. This was awesome as well! We even saw a replica of the first printer used to print the Bible!!! The young lady demonstrating it was awesome as well and very informative.

Next we went on a video tour where we went from room to room and learned about Creation, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, and the Hebrew bible and God’s Salvation plan. In another gallery that portrayed a village in Jesus' time we met a young lady portraying a woman from Jesus’ time and she explained her daily routine to us such as gathering fruit, baking bread, and trading for food they did not produce. She was informative and very friendly.

We did not visit the floors in order. We decided to take a break from the walking. We went to the top floor for Jose to take pictures and me to sit and crochet and relax. The top floor had a balcony where you could take pictures and you coud see the Capitol Building, The Washington Momument, The Lincoln Monument and many other places from the windows! We took lots of pictures and though you couldn’t see the buildings up close you could tell what they were and where they were located.

After resting and relaxing we visited the History of the Bible gallery and saw some amazing interactive videos! Then we saw a replica of the dead sea scrolls and an explanation of how they found out they were not the original scrolls! It's amazing how they can detect if a document or article is a fake! In the next gallery we saw pottery and jewelry and all sorts of artifacts too. It's amazing how stone was used to make coffins for the ashes of the dead too!

But the thing I enjoyed the most was the view of the city itself. It’s huge and there are so many people all the time!!! People do a lot of walking there because there are not many parking spots!! And the ones that are there are expensive! If you want to see the Monument or the Capitol building, you have to park in certain areas and walk most of the way!! Needless to say, we took pictures from the vehicle as we drove around. I took the pictures, and Jose drove the car. But despite the hustle and bustle all around it was enjoyable. Nice for a visit but definitely don’t want to live there!!!

It was awesome just driving around the National Mall and other places. The Air and Space Museum is closed for renovation. The workers along the gate told us it was all closed down because they were redoing it from top to bottom!! The Pentagon building was all fenced off also but we could see it regardless. We even passed by the Arlington National Cemetery.

We also took a trip to Bay Bridge which is a private community and took pictures of the Chesapeake Bay, from there I could see the Ocean and that was good enough for me… The residents just smiled as we took pictures….. took me 70 years but I saw the Ocean!

Now this may not seem like much of an adventure, but for me it was one I will never forget. Aside from visiting the Museum (which by the way we arrived when they opened and did not leave until they closed), the best part of this adventure was all the people we met during our adventures, both unexpected and expected. Everyone we encountered along our travels was friendly, kind, considerate, helpful, and we made friends all along our way. Just goes to show how God guides our steps and places people in our paths in our times of need. I will never forget the people we met or the friendships we made. God is always good and this trip demonstrated to me that He is always with us and never leaves us. I personally came back from this trip filled with peace and love like I have never felt before. I will be forever grateful for this adventure and I will never forget it! Peace be with you and remember God loves you.
