Vacations can be an exciting time for all and it can be a hectic time for the ones preparing for and planning it. Every year for the past couple of years my sister comes to house sit for our brother while they go on vacation. She comes and gets Jose and me and we spend the time with her at their house. This year we had plans of going on adventures every day and spending time playing games and just enjoying ourselves. She had two doctor appointments too so we had our days planned out.
Know what…..other than the doctor appointments none of that happened…..lol we just played cards, yahtzee, read books, went for short walks, sat on the porch, and watched soccer games! We went to the store twice during our visit mainly for supplies but other than that we just rested and enjoyed our time together.
Oh yeah I can’t forget the critters! My brother has an ‘animal’ sanctuary of sorts in his back yard. So before we got there a baby deer was born and we got to see him/her not sure which daily….then there is the chipmunk ‘stumpy’ that likes apples, but not salad or cucumbers….there are the raccoons, a possum, and mouse that come to the ledge on the porch at night to get the ‘buttered’ popcorn and chocolate animal crackers that we put out there every night. They kept knocking over the camera my brother has on the ledge and I finally figured out it was because I was putting the treats too close to the camera! They also did not like the cucumbers but they loved the sandwich cookies we put out there!!! The chipmunk loved licking the cream inside them!
Even though we didn’t go on ‘adventures’ we made our own….it was a very relaxing and refreshing vacation and I can hardly wait until next year when we do it all over again!!!
It just goes to show that even though the world is a mess life doesn’t have to be…..you can find adventures, beauty, and peace in the everyday things you do….life is an adventure…..live it to the fullest and enjoy the simple things… Make your next vacation a 'nothing special, special vacation' and experience the beauty of Psalm 23.....
The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
he refreshes my soul.
He guides me along the right paths
for his name’s sake..... Amen
